You must know that the run dialog can execute many applications just by typing few letters into it and pressing enter. Ex. typing wordpad into run and pressing enter to start WordPad, and so on.

Most of these programs are those which are bundled with Windows and Microsoft’s softwares (like office). All these programs have a predefined shortcut which is used to execute these programs from the run dialog.

It is possible to run your own program just by typing few letters in the run dialog. And it’s pretty easy.

Here are the steps involved:
  • Create a shortcut of the program you want to run from the run dialog.

  • Place the shortcut in your System Directory (usually C :\).

putting a new shortcut in system directory
  • Rename the shortcut to something short, unique, and easy to remember.

  • For example, you can rename the Photoshop shortcut to phs.

  • Just type phs in the run dialog and press enter to start Photoshop.
