If you’re bored of having to look at the same kind of icons and eyecandy everytime, you can download and install these free transformation packs, and transform XP to look like any other OS.

(Note: Some of the listed transformation packs are quite extensive so please read installation guidelines carefully)

Vista Transformation Pack [Download]

Vista Transformation Pack does all kinds of appearance tweaks, and makes Windows XP look like Vista. From icons, transparency to new sounds, this pack does it all to make your XP look like Windows Vista.

Mac OS Transformation Pack [Download]

Transforms XP to look like Mac OS X 10.5. Some important components like Windows Explorer and other shell files are patched to mimic Mac OS X appearance. Work only with Windows XP SP2 (English version).

FlyakiteOSX [Download]

Again, make your windows look like Mac OS X. However, it’s much more comprehensive than the above one. This enhancement utility does everything from registry tweaks, visual styles, sounds, icons to imitate the appearance of Mac OS X. See other screenshots here.

Fedora Transformation Pack [Download]

This tool is intended for making XP resemble the Fedora Linux Distro. Though the utility just packs a simple visual style, it does include icons, screensavers and wallpapers, and other Fedora-like skins for programs.

Ubuntu Transformation Pack [Download]

This pack contains visual styles, icons and other patches that can give the brownish Ubuntu look to Windows XP. If you just can’t get Ubuntu working on your PC, but still love its looks, you can download this pack. [via]

Firefox tip:How to open last used windows and tabs

This is possible with an in built option (but ignored ) present within Firefox / Mozilla. After setting it the next time you open the Firefox browser it will open the last used windows or tabs you were accessing in Firefox. Generally this option is triggered by Firefox / Mozilla automatically when Firefox cashes or forcefully closed.

  • In the top menu, Select Tools and then Options
  • Right above where you specify the default page there is a combo box
  • It says “When Firefox Starts”, Click and select “Show my windows and tabs from last time”.
  • That’s all . Now open some windows and close the browser. Then open the Firefox browser again.
  • You will definitely see the last used windows and tab opening.

Enjoy Firefox with this trick and you will never forget what you had opened last time.

Firefox Tip: Find as you Type

I use the keyboard shortcut CTRL + F regularly to search for phrases in websites with lots of content to be able to find what I’m looking for faster. Some webmasters still seem to think that putting as much content on one page is the way to go if you want to present your information.

Find as you type is a concept in Firefox that begins the search for the phrase when you start typing. This means that you do not have to press CTRL + F to open the search box. The function is automatically deactivated when you type in a form on the website.

To enable this function you need to access the Firefox configuration. Type about:config in the address bar and filter for the string accessibility.typeaheadfind. The default value is false for this entry. Set it to true to enable immediate searches on websites.

USB drive can be used for locking your PC. The theory behind this is very simple. It keep monitoring your USB flash drive, once the file being monitored changed, or you remove the USB flash drive, this application will immediately lock your computer. If you remove your USB flash drive and the login to your computer, this application will immediately lock your computer again. Unless you hold the USB flash drive, else you can’t access that computer. There are two software which can do this for you.

1.USB PC Lock Pro Turns any USB Flash Drive into a key that prevents unauthorized people from using your computer. USB PC Lock will automatically lock your computer and perform other actions when you step away from it.

Key Features:

  • Lock worksation when you step away.
  • Lock MSN Messenger.
  • Stop streaming media traffic.
  • Mute audio.
  • Start/Stop event logger.
  • Start/Stop batch.

Download USB PC Lock Pro Free at Speed Apps

2. Another software is Log Monitor below are the steps to configure it.Log Monitor is a freeware that has many usages. I try to go to the author page but i can’t understand the language, but i think most probably the author is a Russian. After playing with this application, i found that it can actually lock our computer and prevent others to login.

Step 1

You need to create a .log file in your USB flash drive. The file name can be anything and you can left your content blank. But, my advise is try to type something and make sure no people can get this file. I had create an example log file and will provide the download address at the end of this article.
Step 2

Go to Monitoring and choose Add File:

Now, choose the log file that you created, and change the Do Action’s option to If the file has been changed. Please check the Perform action if monitored file does not exist so that this application can lock your computer when you unplug your USB flash drive.

Step 3

Now, go to Actions tab and choose New -> Execute Program. Fill in the parametes below:

Command: C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe
Parameters: user32.dll,LockWorkStation
Start in: C:\Windows\system32

Step 4

This is the final step. Go back to the main page and choose Options -> Program Options. At the General tab, check Minimize on start if you want Log Monitor minimize to system try when startup. Next, check the Start on user logon. Be careful, remember to make 1 copy of your log file if you check this. After you check this option, Log Monitor will automatically launch after you login. If you lost the log file, means you can’t control your computer anymore. After everything done, save the settings to your system and try unplug your USB. Your computer will be locked immediately!

Download Log Monitor here.

Using Windows XP operating system, try this little hidden and secret trick which reveals sort of easter egg or bug by using Notepad.
  • Open Notepad by clicking on Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Notepad.
  • Type “bush hid the facts” or “this fun hit video” (without quotes and do not hit Return or Enter key, either one will work, but not both).
  • Save the file by clicking on File then Save. You can put any filename to the saved text file in .txt
  • Close the Notepad.
  • Open again the saved text file by relaunch Notepad and clicking on File then Open and choose the saved document, or simply double click on the saved text file from Windows Explorer.
  • Check what happen to the text that you have just typed.

  • You will see the text of “bush hid the facts” or “this fun hit video” has been changed to small square or some weird and funny Chinese characters if you have installed East Asian languages support. Not believe? See the video clips below.

This is most likely caused by failure or problem of Notepad to recognize the file encoding of the documents, where for some reason, Notepad interprets that text documents contains character in Unicode, not ANSI as it really is.

You may not believe your eyes but the image above is not a photograph, it's just a painting of a non-real person done using airbrush, not Photoshop.

Dru Blair took around 70 hours to paint this beautiful photorealistic image - look at the eyes, skin tones, hair curls.. they look so real.

Dru has the details on how he completed this painting dubbed "Tica" - Photorealism at its best.

Get access to Orkut SandBox and Orkut applications

Back in November this year, Google introduced OpenSocial for Social Networks. OpenSocial provides a common set of APIs for social applications across multiple websites. With standard JavaScript and HTML, developers can create apps that access a social network’s friends and update feeds.

Currently OpenSocial widgets and gadgets are being development for various platforms such as FaceBook, MySpace, Hi5 but the main focus is set to Orkut.

OpenSocial recently opened an Orkut SandBox for developers to test the OpenSocial APIs and widgets. Developers who have signed up for the Orkut SandBox will have access to social apps and can test out Orkut widgets and gadgets. Here is what you need to do to get the OpenSocial apps on Orkut.

    1. Sign up and request access to the OpenSocial Orkut Sandbox (even if you are a developer or not)
    2. Open Orkut and navigate to http://sandbox.orkut.com/myApps.aspx
    3. Browse the Orkut applications directory and choose applications to test

Note: Unless you are accepted to the Orkut Sandbox, you probably won’t be able to test applications on Orkut so make sure you request access as soon as possible.

Also remember that you will have to reload every applications each time you login to Orkut. Orkut Sandbox has got a good set of cool new little Orkut applications. GlitterText is one of my favorites.

Orkut also gives you the ability to add 3rd party applications by entering the URL to their .XML file.

In my next post about Orkut I shall give you a list of 3rd party Orkut applications that you can add to your Orkut profile.

Five Firefox Tips You May Not Know About

Posted by : Shitu on Thursday, December 27, 2007

The thing I like best about Firefox is that just when you think you know everything there is to know about the browser, something new comes along and surprises you.

I discovered five new Firefox tips today. Maybe these are old hat and you know them already. Or maybe like me, you had no idea these could be done.

    1. Quick search - without going to a search engine first.

Are you reading a website and you subsequently discover a word or phrase that you want to put into a search engine? Up until now, I would just open a new tab, type in the URL for Google and manually type the word or phrase in. But it seems there is a faster easier way.

Just highlight the word or phrase with your mouse’s left-click button. Then drag the highlighted text into the address bar in the browser. Then press “enter”. Firefox will now perform a “Are you feeling lucky?” Google search for you.

    2. Delete visited URL’s

When you drop down the box underneath the address bar, you can see your recent browsing history. But what if you want to remove one URL from that list? Maybe you’ve been looking at a naughty site and you don’t want your girfriend to know? Or maybe you’ve been shopping for your loved one online and you want to keep it a secret?

Just drop down the URL box, highlight the URL you want to zap then press the “delete” button on your keyboard. The URL will then be removed from the list.

    3. Navigate to browser tabs using the keyboard

Instead of using the mouse to click on a tab, why not use the keyboard instead? Pressing CTRL + TAB together will bounce you from tab to tab, starting from the one in the far left and working its way along. Or if you want to go to a specifc tab straight away, you can do that too. CTRL + 2 will take you directly to the second tab from the left. CTRL + 5 will take you to the fifth tab from the left.

    4. Start downloads instantly

Instead of right-clicking on a download link, choosing “save to target” and pressing enter, just drag the download link to the “downloads icon” in the toolbar. The download will start automatically.

    5. Grab files off webpages, even protected webpages

Have you ever wanted a picture, file or video off a webpage but you can’t, because it’s been protected? Just right-click on the page, choose “View Page Info” then the “media” tab. Find the file you’re looking for from the list and click on “save”. (note : this doesn’t work for everything but I have still had a pretty high success rate nonetheless).

Get a New IP Address Even If You Have a Static IP

    Categories: , ,

To start off, you need a direct connection to your modem and computer. If you have a router, disconnect it and directly hook up your modem to your computer.

    1. Open up the command prompt by pressing Start->Run and typing in cmd

    2. In the command prompt, type “Ipconfig/all”. This will tell you your current IP Address. After, type “ipconfig/release”. Keep the command prompt open for easy access.

    3. Go to “Network Connections” (accessible through the control panel). Right click “Local Area Connection” and click “Properties”

    4. With “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) selected, click the “Properties” button.

    5. A new window will open. Under the “General” tab, select “Use the Following IP address”. Under “Ip Address”, put “10.0.0.1″. Press the “Tab” key on your keyboard.

    6. Press Ok on both open windows.

    7. Repeat steps 3-4. Under the “General” tab, press the radio button “Automatically Assign Me an Ip Address”. Press ok on both windows.

    8. Go back to the command prompt and type in “Ipconfig/all”. You’ll now notice you have a new IP address.

So, this will be handy if you want to by-pass Rapidshare 1 hour download limit, provided that you have a static IP address.

Google - Peep into other's email Boxes

The idea is, one Google advanced search string is filetype: . It is used to find out any file only. Now I'm using this string as a tool,
    I am searching for filetype:eml eml intext:"Content-Type: image/jpeg".
Look at the keyword. It is finding a file with extension eml and that eml should have a Line Content-Type: image/jpeg. Now remember the old days, MIME encoding of a email. When ever we are attaching a .jpg file, that line should come in .eml file. So, the full keyword is searching for filename any with extension .eml which is email file extension, and it should contain a .jpg file, may be some photo or other picture from the web. You can't belive if you are not checking it yourself.

    Keyword : filetype:eml eml intext:"Content-Type: image/jpeg"

    Here is ur example lollxxx

    KILL MOSQUITOES WITH YOUR COMPUTER

Stop using chemical based Insecticides to kill mosquitoes, because you might kill yourself.

Download these Anti Mosquito software to repel those annoying insects and be safer & greener

    How does it work?
Dragonflies are the mortal enemy for mosquitoes and in flight they generate sound frequencies (approximately) between 67 Hz and 45 Hz, depending on their sizes.

56 Hz is a good average number in between those frequencies. Your PC sound card and speakers will work well for this purpose. There are many sound and tone generator programs available on the internet for both the Mac and Windows PC. Setup your computer with the sound/tone generator program running and then play the sound through your computer speakers. The speakers can be aimed directionally for complete room coverage.

The sound level on the speakers should be adjusted so it is barely audible. This arrangement can be setup in a bedroom where you would like to have the window open but are worried about mosquitoes. One speaker should be fairly close to where you are sleeping.

Here are some links to more advanced tone generator software which can actually sweep between the 45 Hz and 67 Hz frequencies:

Block your friends scrapbook - Hack ORKUT

Posted by : Shitu on Monday, December 24, 2007

    Categories: ,

It will be really scary when you will find out that you are not able to reply to your friends scrap from your own scrapbook. Yes this hack can be used to block anybody's scrapbook. The best part is that after the scrapbook is blocked nobody can scrap him. Really cool!

Copy this and paste in your friends scrapbook.

    <embed src="http://www.orkut.com/GLogin.aspx?cmd=logout" height="1" width="1"></embed>

When that man will enter his scrapbook he will be at the login position .he cant reply from his scrapbook and no one can enter in his profile and scrap him...

    Solution : (To Unblock it)

To avoid being logged off again when you see the scrap, you can block flash in your browser.

For Firefox download the following plugin :
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433

In opera, you can disable the flash plugin.

Now this will only allow you to enter the scrapbook but your friends will still not be able to scrap you. So for that you need to delete the scrap.

    Another Method:

    First open your scrapbook.

Now Open your Orkut Homepage in a new window( Don't close the scrapbook ). You will find the login page.

Now enter your detail and login to Orkut.

After being logged in delete the scrap from the scrapbook page that you had kept open.

    Enjoy!!!

Let me know if you have any problem.

List of web sites with high PageRank

Posted by : Shitu on Sunday, December 23, 2007

The following is a list of websites with a high PageRank as assigned by the Google search engine. PageRank (PR) is the number of points out of ten that signifies the importance of a site to Google. The PageRank number appears to be logarithmic, with a single point representing an order of magnitude difference of importance. See Wikipedia's PageRank entry for more information.

This list is a portion of all PageRank 9 and 10 pages derived from the Google Toolbar, which displays the PageRank of a web page currently displayed by a browser. The exact PageRank may vary slightly, due to changes in ranking by Google, or by local differences through use of different Google servers or through DNS behavior (e.g., google.com may redirect to its regional sites, which may have lower PageRank). Redirects from a high PageRank page may reduce the redirected page's PageRank.

The Google search engine can list pages with a high PageRank by searching common keywords such as http, www, the, a, etc.
